Kristen completed her Master of Occupational Therapy (MOT) program at University of British Columbia. During her OT graduate program, Kristen completed a fieldwork placement virtually through Amar Seva Sangam Early Intervention Program located in Ayikudy Village in Tirunelveli District in South Tamil Nadu, India. She worked on an interdisciplinary team and developed occupational therapy home based treatment plans based on the family’s primary concern areas to help children participate and engage in their daily routines.
Prior to Occupational Therapy Kristen worked as an Indigenous Infant and Supported Child Development Consultant for 6 years, working in home and in community-based settings. She worked with children with a variety diagnosis such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, Cerebral Palsy, early childhood trauma, and other genetic, neurological, and developmental conditions. Kristen believes in the importance coming alongside children and their families by practicing from a strength-based approach to help children reach their potential.
Kristen has expanded her knowledge by completing the following courses and webinars: Hanen 4 “I”s to Socialize: Coaching parents of children with autism and social communication difficulties, The Hanen Centre; Making Sense of Hypersensitivity Course, Neufeld Institute; The Calm Alert & Learning Modules Curriculum Workshop training by Kiran Sidhu and Jodie Elliott; Autism Intervention Workshop- Reference and Regulate by David Loyst; “Trauma Informed Practice” and “Becoming a Behavioural Detective” by Kim Barthel (OT); Certified Circle of Security Parenting Facilitator. When not at work, Kristen enjoys camping with her family and the outdoors, teaching Zumba Fitness Classes, doing yoga, making wood signs, and going for walks with friends.
